Ecological Supervison
Ecological Clerk of Works
Ecological supervision, often referred to as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), involves an ecologist being present during site works to ensure that activities are carried out in line with ecological recommendations, planning conditions or protected species licences.
This may include supervising vegetation clearance, demolition works or groundworks where there is potential risk to protected species or sensitive habitats. Typical supervision includes nesting bird checks during vegetation clearance, installation of reptile or great crested newt exclusion fencing, supervision of sensitive habitat works, and supervision during the removal or modification of bat roost features where this is undertaken under licence.
Ecological supervision helps ensure works remain compliant with planning requirements and environmental legislation, while allowing construction to proceed efficiently and with minimal risk of delays.
